Sewing Sasquatch

Dresses to be recreated by my sewing hands:

Songs to be obsessed over:
  • Billionaire by Travie McCoy
I'm just... so excited. For some reason, sleep has been evading me during the night time hours but i decided to be productive last night/morning and made a list of my itinerary for today.

Here's the gist, Jeeves:
  • At 9am(when the stores open), go to JoAnn fabrics. There's a craaaazy fabric sale. I want a few yards of a wild pattern. Either flowers or poka dots. I'm currently undecided. And then i'll buy a solid color to match.
  • From there it is off to ze library to pick up three different sewing books. The little Black Dress sounds promising. It's all about how certain body types should wear certain dresses and how to figure out your own perfect tailored cute lil black dress and yay. so enthused.
  • Then off to make some dinero by sewing old jeans at Plato's Closet.
I still have a half hour til I can do any but YAYAY. productivity here i come.
Spock out. Wish me luck.

It's Almost Father's Day so...

HAPPY ALMOST DAY DEDICATED TO YOUR AWESOME, DAD!!
I love you!!

My dad and mom are the sole reasons I'm capable of study abroad in a few months. They don't mention it but I know they're killing themselves to make the money to allow me to go but the truly incredible thing about them is their selflessness, especially my dad. He works as a tuckpointer (if you don't know, look it up. it's a very physically demanding job) Monday-Saturday. Then he drives two hours home in a non-air conditioned car after working in the hot summer sun all day. He never complains. He never says a word. But I want him to know, I truly appreciate it.

LOVE YOU!!

Joliet Jubilee

Songs to be obsessed over:
  • Bulletproof by La Roux
This is the end of my first weekend of summer.
A nice lil list of what I have done:
  • Finished altering an old white homecoming dress I was never planning on wearing again but now I shall get some use out of it :]
  • Went to Laura's cookout (lots of veggietable cutting prep and making dip. my vegetarian pals were pleased heh)
  • Drove home, switched out cars and then went to Linds'
  • We went to hang out w/ her babealic friend Tom and some of his friends.
Overall, this weekend was verrry successful. Hopefully more fun to come. definitely this weekend coming up.

Plans:
  • Themed bday party of fran's friend: A named people. I'm going as Audrey Hepburn. should be a fun time.
luh,

Tell me where it all went wrong

Songs to be obsessed over:
  • If looks could kill by Camera Obscura
I like the idea of listing songs I'm currently into then when i look back at this particular time in my life, these songs which will most likely be mentally associated with it will be able to be played by an older version of myself and enjoy heh.

On a completely unrelated note, it is the beginning of the end. I'm happysad about it. Tomorrow is my last final of my sophomore year of college. It has certainly been a crazy ride. It's weird/very surreal to wrap my head around the fact I will not be a student on this campus for another 7 months. Though going abroad will surely be a lovely experience, I'm a little sad. I know, as it always goes, my friendships will be altered by my absence. But it's a way of life and I can't worry about what has yet to come. Come what may, I do suppose.

OH! Speaking of study abroad, I need to turn in my Glimpse application. Balls. Must do that.

Off to fb and wait for ze Lukemeister to finish his Psych paper and then frolic back to ze dorms.

Love and Rain and Spock out.

Cooler than me.

New songs to be obsessed over:
  • Cooler than me by Mike Posner (but not the one with all the techno beats. no thanks)
  • California Girls by Katy Perry
I've been a crazy crazy busy cretin from ze sea. I'm moving out of my dorm and trying to finish papers and it's just pandemonium. But it's almost summer so silver lining.

I went to a house party yesterday. I didn't feel like drinking but I wanted to get babealicious for the party. The photoing before we left for the party was prolly the most fun. I left before everyone got super trashed, meaning I didn't get to see everyone hooking up, vomiting and being silly. Oh well ha. I'll hear stories from friends I'm sure.

I should be doing my Af Am Women's Writers paper... boo. Off to do that, I guess.

Hugs, kisses and spock out.

french fries, flirty waiters and friends.

ingredients for a very good night.

I was bored at home watching harry potter which, in all truths, isn't a terrible way to spend a sunday night but nevertheless I was a bit saddened by my lacking social calender but then I twas saved by the good graces of an old friend.

My friends from high school(Anna and Sarah) called me and at first I thought it was a drunk dial. The phone conversation started "heyyyyyy, pretty lady" which usually can be safely translated to "heyyyyyyyy...who am I calling? I don't remember but wooo booze!"

So long story short, they were not drunk. They called to see if I was interested in going out to Steak and Shake and then back to Anna's for a movie. SWELL. The cute server at Steak and Shake was a flirtyMcflirt face which was nice. I do enjoy a harmless flirt every so often and he was very good looking. For the fun of it, Anna left him her number. I love spontaneous shenanigans such as that. Keeps the mood fun :]

Then we flopped over to Jewel but their selection of Red Box movies were laaaaaame so Blockbuster it was. Rented "I hope they serve beer in hell". Holy fuuudge. So funny. I was surprised I enjoyed it because I'm usually more into witty movies but even with the crudeness there was some wit snuck in and it kept me laughing so I was happy.

Anna's crazy german sheperd follows commands in german, english AND polish. (Just had to add that cultural note because... it blew my fracking mind ha.)

Reconnecting with those girls makes me feel that summer will, in fact, be fun and exciting. I'm glad cause the last few weeks of school are going to be a hell of a hellish time.

Life is good. Still obsessively playing Michael Buble's 'Havent met you yet'. What can I say? I'm a masochist.

Put your hand on your heart and cross your eyes.
Spiders, snakes and a lizard's head.
If I tattletale, I'll die till I'm dead.
~ Robin Hood

Mind your maddles! Oh how I love that movie so. It is just a giggley hoot indeed.

The adorabibble poka dotted dress seen above is from modcloth.com, a wonderful website with vintage attire and also just old fashioned clothing. There are also accessories and things for an apartment. Oh my oh man oh my. How I loooove clothing.

For now...

Thoughts on love, chick flicks and zombies

While I'm at school I rarely listen to music that is not already on my computer. Therefore my music taste remains somewhat contained. Now that I'm home, I've been listening to the radio more and I must say Michael Buble's 'new' song "haven't met you yet" is... just lovely. But! I watched the music video and while it's adorable and everything it almost ruined it for me. The girl he's singing to is so clique 'beautiful': blonde, big boobs, size zero zero. It was, well, kind of disappointing to be honest. Maybe because his voice reminds me of something classic like Sinatra I expect better? But to be fair, Sinatra was into mob stuff so... I guess no one is perfect ha.

Also Airplane by B.O.B. featuring Hayley Williams is a jam. I like the lyrics alot. But that song now just reminds me of how Hayley Williams had a picture of her topless leaked on the interwebs. Really? LAME. What is that nonsense all about? Keep your nudey body to your self. If you have to have naked pictures of you, well and if you're a celebrity, your nakedness is probably one day goingto be seen by all. It's just...eck. Why?

Yesterday I watched "Valentine's Day". I definitely agree that it was a pale imitation of "Love Actually" but it was still semi enjoyable. I watched it all the way through which is something considering...

Zombieland. Okay. I understand, comprehend and realize that many a person see this movie and think "OMGZ SO AWESOSMEZ" but...eh. I was less than impressed. The main guy is adorable. Buddy Harrelson is hilarious. And yet... I haven't made it through the whole movie yet. I've gotten through half. TWICE. I just always find better things to do (i.e paint my nails, do my homework, punch myself in the membrane etc). :]

Sam, in my Af Am Women Writers course, recommended My Girl(the original and 2). I think I may watch those today. I'm all for coming of age stories. Now and Then? AW HELL YEA! Such a gosh derned good flick. I think I especially enjoy the idea of seeing a person's childhood and then seeing how they grow up in rapid succession. It's something real life cannot offer us(at this point in technology) and I enjoy it.

Hmmm I had an epiphany of what I wanted to write and now it's gone...

OHH! I'm a fourth of the way through with blood child and I LOOOVE it. It's fantastical. I very much so enjoy sci fi and this is excellently written. Octavia Butler for the win!

Alright alright. Now I have to go see some goats...yuck.

Honey, I'm hoooome.

For the weekend that is.

It's memorial day weekend so I'm spending some time in the good ol' home abode. My parentals, sistah and I went out to din and then ze mama and I bought eclairs at ze jewel and walked home. it was swell. :]

On a completely 100% percent different subject, I love modcloth.com. It's my newest obsession. I have gotten into sewing lately since the past summer or so and now this website allows me to get back into it. All of the items are so adorable and so super cute but too expensive for my blood. Therefor my plan is to bring up my sewing skills and imitate the fricking frack outta everything heh. Although adding my own sense of creative flavor, of course.

My first project is a blue shirt with peach lace accents and a big bow on front. :] i'm super enthused. Now all I have to do is start the sewing process. I have a few days home, then a few more days of school and then it's summer and a bunch of time to do as I wish aka sew sew sew sew sew.

Besides that, tomorrow my sis and I are going to see sex and the city 2. The first one was actually, surprisingly, very well written and enjoyable. I can only hope the second will follow.

I'm off to read Bloodchild for my African American Women Writers course(love love love it).

update update:
i'm off in a few to go out for mexican food for the roommate's birfday. Perhapsums I shall come back with stories(but most likely not heh). But yes. Maybe. (Stay on the edge of your seat in anticipation, pleace)

okay okay.

A sunny day and indoors? LAME.

Greetings and salutations.

Today is Thursday, week 9 out of 10 for my last trimester of my sophomore year in college. It's busy central. I forgot about a project I had to have turned in by 5pm today and spent the rest of my day slightly off kilter. I hate when that happens. One things can just set off a domino like chain reaction, building stress and craziness. But everything has simmered now. I'm waiting 'patiently'(is it time yet? come on. come on. come on.) for my study abroad meeting. I'm presenting my powerpoint all about Irish food, customs related and misconceptions. It's pretty cool. I had alot of fun researching and learning odd irish food I'm going to HAVE to try as soon as I'm there. So soon and yet, not even so. September 2nd. It's almost herrree! Other than that, my African American Women Writers class was riveting as always. I'm planning to become involved in some sort of research project with that topic next year. First off, the literature is enthralling and second I love the feminist ideas raised. And lastly (and the most superficial), my professor is so incredibly awesome and I want her as my friend! :]

Alright, what else what else? OH! well, Kitt and I went searching for popcorn man today(short update/story time: On saturday my bff Kitt went into a popcorn shop after I said 'That popcorn guy is a babe and everytime I pass I think 'manohman babealicious babe town'' so kitt, being the super hero she is, went into the shop and explained all this to Popcorn guy. From her account, he was very good natured with this news and said I should take him out to dinner(because Kitt's daring act won her dinner from me). Therefore we went to the popcorn place today so I could actually talk to Mister Babealicious Popcorn man but alas he was not working. Better luck next time.

I have forty more minutes to kill until my meeting. I'm trying to think of stories I want to write down and look back on later but none are coming to mind.

Lately, my best guy friend, Luke, and I have gotten very close. We now discuss anything and everything I would previously only share with girl friends. It's cool to be able to receive feedback from a guy considering their complete opposite nonsensical way of viewing the world but I suppose every sex views the other with the same animosity for our enigmatic ways. But, seriously guys, stop it. :]

Hm hm hm. I suppose I'll stop now with the rambling and the nonsense. My fingernails are painted bright sunshine yellow(that's justa fun fact. Savor it.)

Why hullo, World.

hihihi.
My name is Shaina and this is my first blog. While I'm already pointing out the obvious I might as well keep on my roll, I'm a girl(wickawoo) who is a college student who is going to study abroad in the fall(the reasoning for making this blog as it happens to be) who is slightly sunburnt(being irish and yearning for a tan does not coincide well) who is freezing(our air conditioner is a mighty beast) who has to pee(brb...).

So yes. Now that you're better acquainted with me(and aren't you just a better person for it already? ha), I begin my bloggy blog part of this blog...maybe.

I guess I could write about what my day consisted of but that seems like a big snooze fest which i do not even want to recount to the masses let alone reread in later years when I'm old and gray and realizing that I was not a very cool adolescent(hmm or I suppose I've saved myself the trouble of that grand epiphany by lightbulbing that moment now...score!).

I think I'd like to talk about plans and since this blog, in general, will be for my own purposes you, ambiguous phantom reader, have no say so... HA! My plans for the week are:
  • Write two out of the 6 papers due by the end of next week(barfvomitdie).
  • Buy ze roommate a present for her friday birthday(she wants a goat but that shit ain't happening on my watch).
  • Pack of my winter garb and half of my summer garb that I do not actually wear but look at nostalgically in an attempt to convince myself I will one day.
  • Eat lunch with the beautious roommate of the future(fingers crossed): Kitt.
Those plans are for the near future, end of next week at the max. My future future vast life plans are more interesting(to me anyways) and wayyy more fun to think about:
  • Starting my crazy workout regime as soon as summer hits(while this goal is less fun and more practically it will make all the rest of my goals waaay more fun).
  • Get all ready, all set and GOOOO to Ireland for four months(still more a dream than a reality in my mind even though half of the down payment is paid so I suppose I should kick up the reality a lil bit)
  • Blog blog blog like a crazy fiend while abroad(I'm especially looking forward to this aspect. I'm still unsure whether or not I'm going to put my blog location all over my life aka facebook and such nonsense. It really depends on how much I plan on sensoring myself and at this point and time I'm feeling free as a chincilla(?). I don't really want to have to leave things out because my memory is not the grandest of them all and I want to remember everything and I figure writing it all down on a blog will be a swell way to remember.
  • Come home and see lovely people who I cannot even imagine being without for four months but absence makes the heart grow etc etc(Although I think this phrase was really just created to lull people into a false sense of comfort for their loss but hey. When in the land of denial, do as the denialians ha.)
And now my guy bff Luke is talking about self defense and joint locks and how everyone should know how to do a sleeper hold(cuz it's a life skill)....mmm yeah. leaving. kaybye.
